Activities of the Order of Alba
The Order meets once a year in Washington, DC at an event during the Hereditary Society week in April. The inaugural meeting took place on Tuesday April 12, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the Washington Room of the Army and Navy Club at 901 17th Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20006.
The Journal of Alba, the newsletter of the Order of Alba, is provided electronically at no charge to all members. Copies are available on the Journal page of this website.
Starting on April 12, 2016, the Order of Alba was prepared to award the
King Kenneth MacAlpin Research Grant to one or more individuals pursuing research in Scottish history, or to archeological projects in Scotland, but did not receive applicants. The next possible award will be April 2022.
On April 12, 2016, The Order of Alba awarded the first King Malcolm III Canmore Scholarship to Marian Toledo Candelaria, a Ph.D. candidate in Scottish history at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. The subject of her doctoral thesis, still in progress, is King Malcolm III Canmore. It was renewed for her on April 17, 2017. The scholarship is available to one or more or more graduate students pursuing a course in history, with an emphasis on Scotland. The next possible award will be April 2025.
